'When God's People Pray' by Jim Cymbala
Jim Cymbala is the pastor of Brooklyn Tabernacle Church - and he and his
wife have learnt through much testing and trial how to make prayer the
engine room of their church and their lives. He gives excellent
teaching in each session and then there is a challenging and moving
story related to the topic. This is a 'must see' if you want a
seriously powerful praying church!
Session 1. God's Heart for us - describes how God longs for us to 'call on his name' and find his mercy and power for the impossible things in life. A wonderful testimony of a man's life redeemed from the pit.
Session 2. The Amazing Power of Prayer - how the Spirit helps us to pray and puts the Lord's words and dreams in our hearts. Drawing on the well of his power through the Spirit. Another lovely story of an anointed woman.
Session 3. Obedience in Prayer. Jim describes the necessity of obeying the Lord in order to have answered prayer - the call to living with purity and simplicity. A great story from a man who needed to forgive in order to become a person of prayer.
Session 4. The Word of God and prayer. Exploring how 'the prayer of faith' comes through the Word and causes us to persevere in prayer. Really inspiring! And a deeply moving testimony of a woman in addiction and later with AIDS who clung to the Word and has been set free and healed!
Session 5. Prayer Matters. God wants to use our prayers to release his power into the lives of others. The vital need of intercession in our churches in order to impact our communities. A great testimony again.
Session 6. Creating a Prayer Ministry in your church. Practical instruction for making prayer a higher priority in your Church. If prayer was the barometer of spiritual maturity of a church - where would your church be? What is 'an atmosphere of prayer?' Especially helpful for leaders and pastors.
